The Unified Defense Force (UDF) was a group in the Sandbox Region dedicated to the defense of various Garry's Mod servers from mingebags and other deemed threats to the servers' communities. Initially a vanilla faction operating exclusively on the Friendly Garry's Mod Community, they later founded their own server and expanded to others.
After a long series of both internal and external conflicts, the UDF eventually became the now-defunct Royal Eskeylian Military and the present-day 1-47 Union.
Early 1-47 Combine
Founding
The UDF was originally founded as the 1-47 Combine on October 3, 2018, by Epic, Seven, Cody, and Captain Cobra on FGC with the goal of having fun and fighting mingebags. The group's name was inspired by an alias used by Seven in other communities, which was created by a user named SpellTeller.
Of the original four members, only Seven and Epic remained involved with the group for any significant amount of time, as Seven was ousted from the group during the Divide, and Epic abandoned Garry's Mod entirely in late 2020. None are present today in the modern 1-47 Union.
Early Combine Activities
After the initial founding of the 1-47 Combine, many small-scale fights against other tiny factions on FGC occurred, most notably with the Calcium/Skeleton Mafia, Pool Squad, and numerous rebellions by random players roleplaying as Half-Life 2 rebels, all of which were defeated by 1-47. Slowly but surely, the 1-47 outlasted all of its opponents and climbed to power in FGC, eventually becoming a dominant (though disorganized) force on the server and gaining notoriety in its community.
First Discord Purge
On November 14, 2018, Cody, the second in command at the time, banned everyone on the 1-47 Discord server and left. Seven and Epic were able to get most active members back through Discord DMs and in-game text chat, and Epic became the new second in command shortly thereafter. Cody never gave his reasoning behind the purge.
First Skeleton War/Calcium War
In early November 2018, a spike in players using skeleton playermodels occurred on FGC. These players soon banded together to form a loose group that was generally known as the Skeleton Gang, the Calcium Gang, or the Skeleton Mafia. The Skeletons quickly rose to power in the server under the pretense that they were an 'ascended race rightfully called the Calcium' and allegedly destined to dominate everything. Eventually, this prophetic grotesqueness grew to such a point that skeleton players began forcing randoms into imprisonment and participation in 'sacrifices' where 'blood would be drained'. The cult-like threat that loomed over FGC concerned many pillar members in the community, which caught the attention of the 1-47 Combine.
Battle of gm_supersizeroom
The Battle of gm_supersizeroom was arguably one of the bloodiest conflicts in the early history of the Combine and played a major role in laying the foundation for 1-47's path to the domination of FGC. Throughout the battle, the 1-47 fought alongside a small militia force known as the Pseudo-Combine in order to defeat the Calcium and another minor group called the Rebels. After withstanding several hours of Rebel sniper fire from within their base on the bedroom table, the Pseudo-Combine, led by X GONN GIVE IT TO YA, launched an assault on the ratholes. Upon reaching the traintable, they made a one-hour climb into enemy lines, eventually seizing the Rebel outpost and cutting off snipers and Rebel aircraft. This advantage was later used to counter Rebel airboats that tried to fly into the bookshelves.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the map, the Combine fought off hordes of enemies at the bookshelves along with Pseudo-Combine in the traintable room. After 2 hours of fighting at the bookshelves, the order was given to regroup at the Pseudo-Combine base after Rebel forces started to divert their focus towards constructing a new base near the computer. Afterwards, 1-47 devised a plan to launch a massive aerial and infantry assault upon the new Rebel fort. It took 30 minutes to reclaim the bookshelves until the Rebels and Calcium finally surrendered their control of the base. By the end of the battle, the remaining Calcium forces had retreated, and the Rebels had been completely eradicated.
Skeleton Town
The Battle of Skeleton Town, also known as the Massacre of Skeleton Town, was the final battle of the First Skeleton War. After a scouting party of 1-47 members discovered a massive settlement of Calcium residing within the warehouse district of gm_bigcity, the Combine quickly gathered their forces and stormed the town in both an aerial and ground-based assault. The swarm of Combine members flooding the streets of the warehouse district in brutal building-to-building skirmishes proved increasingly overwhelming to the Calcium, even more so when 1-47 Hunter-Choppers circled over the town bombing and gunning down into the main roads. The main force of Calcium retreated southward, establishing blockades within a small corner sheltered by the highway just above the district. Soon after, the little that remained of the Skeleton forces surrendered to the 1-47 and officially disbanded for good. It was joked that the battle resembled Germany invading Poland.
USSR Wars
Nuklearburrito, also known as Nuklearlemon, first appeared on FGC on January 18, 2019, and immediately gathered a small force of random players in an attempt to attack the 1-47 and overthrow their dominance over the server, which was swiftly crushed by Combine infantry. Two days later, Nuklear formed the USSR, a minor FGC faction that was named after the real life USSR and had only a few members over the entirety of its lifespan. Due to Nuklear's persistence in trying to eliminate the Combine, multiple small-scale wars were fought against the USSR, all of which were won by the 1-47 due to their superior organization, technology, and leadership.
After many weeks of winning against the USSR, 1-47 grew tired of the constant battles and formed a loose truce with Nuklear to encourage him to leave them alone, though he broke this truce repeatedly not long after both parties had agreed to its terms. Eventually, Nuklear started to become less active on FGC and stopped his attacks, allowing the USSR to slowly die off, never to be seen again.
Four Hour War (1-47 v. AEF)
On February 24, 2019, a small scouting party of Assault Expeditionary Force members joined FGC and engaged the few unprepared 1-47 members that were present in combat, which resulted in a crushing defeat for 1-47. Having no prior knowledge of groups outside FGC, the Combine grew panicked and spent multiple days researching the AEF and related groups, as well as training intensely in order to prepare for a potential second attack.

Later that week, on March 1, 2019, AEF brought a large group of recruits onto FGC. After their overwhelming victory against the Combine, they had assumed that the server would be a good place to train their members in PVP; however, they had underestimated the strength of the 1-47, who immediately mobilized the majority of their forces in response and launched a massive counterattack with the intent to push the AEF out of FGC for good. For the first ninety minutes of the fight, the 1-47 was able to overwhelm the AEF troops through their numbers and use of vanilla technology, but the battle quickly became a stalemate when the map changed and the AEF successfully defended their base from multiple waves of Combine attacks.
After approximately two more hours of fighting, Strayed, the leader of the AEF, called for a ceasefire and invited 1-47 members into the base as a sign of good will. As the AEF had no intention of claiming FGC and 1-47 high command wanted to learn more about the meta outside their home server, an alliance was formed between the two groups shortly after, which eventually led to the 1-47's inclusion in the New Ares Treaty Organization.
The Divide
Seven was a very active leader for approximately two months after the founding of 1-47, but he became inactive in-game for much of the group's lifespan after his laptop broke, which forced him to lead the group solely through Discord while Epic handled in-game matters. Throughout this period of remote leadership, he often made jokes at the expense of others and put people down, used bots to keep himself in power, and made many sudden decisions for the entire group without consulting other members, which ended up pushing many to leave over time and led to tensions between him and the group's officers over the course of a few months.
The climax of these tensions finally occurred when he announced a declaration of war on the AEF despite most members wanting to avoid conflict with them. A push began within the group's circle of officers to overthrow him, and after approximately one week of attempting to convince Epic to become the new leader, a new Discord server was created and 1-47 declared themselves to be "the Divide." Though the initial revolution was unsuccessful in removing Seven after he convinced Epic that he needed ownership of the Discord server and attempted to lock himself further into power, a second revolution under the same name occurred less than a week later. This second movement was a massive success, as it faced next to no resistance with nearly every single active member supporting the plan. A joint Divide/AEF invasion of FGC also occurred at this time in order to establish the Divide's dominance, though it affected little in the end because Seven was still unable to join the game.
Once all supporting members had joined the new server, 1-47 leadership nuked the previous one, which pushed Seven to kick all remaining users from the server. Epic then decided to promote X GONN, Ally for Hire, and thecraftianman to commander ranks in order to help him run the group for their extensive service and assistance in helping him lead prior to the revolution. 1-47 quickly declared the new server to be the true Combine and formed a new Steam group to reflect their new leadership.
Organizational Change and Expansion Efforts
After Seven's removal, 1-47 leadership began to focus on improving the group's previously lawless ways and poor reputation with the FGC community. In addition to reforming the 1-47, they also hoped to expand their influence to other servers and made multiple attempts to claim new territories.
Annexation of Build & Fight
The 1-47's first attempt at expansion began when they discovered the server Garry's Mod Build & Fight. After confirming that no other factions already controlled Build & Fight, 1-47 quickly claimed the server as theirs and started trying to build friendly relations with the staff and extremely small community. 1-47's presence on Build & Fight attracted other players as well, and minor conflicts with Nuklearburrito and the United Dawn, a very short-lived group comprised of a rebelling 1-47 NCO and an FGC player who disliked 1-47, occurred there as a result.
Not long after first joining the server, 1-47 was kicked out when Epic was banned for spawning many explosive barrels in a short period of time using a contraption spawner, which the staff believed to be a crash attempt. Further 1-47 activities were also banned on Build & Fight, which led 1-47 to abandon the server and search for new claims elsewhere.
Introduction to Cat's Sandbox
Attempted to claim, low-scale war with ULSCI, later allied after realizing common enemy of IZK, claim later revoked but remained under 1-47/ULSCI defense.
War on Petrograd
Petrograd started a multiple day siege on Cat's, re-attacking every day for about a week against 1-47 and ULSCI, breaking a load of rules and ultimately getting a lot of themselves banned by the server's staff. They eventually stopped attacking and nothing was heard for a long time except finally hearing from Strayed the war was over.
Pre-UDF
UNC Split
Over the course of a few months, Epic had developed controversial ideas about what the 1-47 should become, and communication between him and members of High Command slowly broke down as he became increasingly reluctant to accept criticism or share information. At the same time, 1-47's reputation in NATO had deteriorated greatly over their overall poor security and conduct, causing many groups to push for its removal from the alliance. Eventually, High Command grew sick of the 1-47's situation, and high-ranking officers X GONN, Ally for Hire, and Jake came together with the intent of taking drastic action to fix the group's problems. Under immense stress and pressure, these officers felt that they had no choice when NATO finally gave them 2 weeks to reform the Union or break away as a separate group, and they officially left 1–47 on August 9, 2019, to found the United Commonwealth.
Immediately after the formation of the UNC, 1-47 was ejected from NATO, and their ranks were cherry-picked to take nearly all of their active members, greatly crippling the group. In addition to most of 1-47, UNC also absorbed the HECU, a minor FGC group that was based on the Half-Life HECU marines and led by swaggmann, and the Cat's Sandbox Protection Group (CSPG), a small militia led by Ally for Hire with the goal of protecting Cat's Sandbox from foreign invasions, both of which were dissolved voluntarily. UNC also received direct NATO support in technology and training, which made them a significant threat to what remained of 1-47.
Out of dissatisfaction with what NATO wanted the 1-47 to be, numerous former 1-47 members rejoined the group throughout the month, which later culminated in the return of Ally for Hire alongside many ex-CSPG members on August 20, 2019. UNC had initially tried to remain on relatively friendly terms with the Union, but they completely cut ties with 1-47 not long after starting to lose their manpower, and the two groups began to go their separate ways.
1-47/NRK Dispute over FGC
After NRK claimed FGC, the 1-47's home server, and G10 gave it to them, outrage erupted in 1-47 high command and that day, they attacked FGC and told Sergei they were disputing, in the end both sides claimed victory even though 1-47 had higher K/Ds and hadn't resorted to using invincible and server-lagging machines. At the present, 1-47 has a claim on FGC.
Petrograd/Orzel/UOIA Valen Raids (Operation Lightning and Operation Thunder)

IZK and Orzel attacked Valen a total of three times, winning each. UOIA did quite a few smaller attacks, and when they gained their new jet they won a large scale battle as well. The conclusion of this war was the disbandment of ISAF and ULSCI.
N0mad's Revolution
12/13/2019 - Tojo, the leader of the Universal Union, took control of the 1–47 as the Head Advisor. This was done as an attempt for Tojo to make the 1-47 into the Overwatch, the Universal Union's military forces. It began to deteriorate after the populace, mostly NCO's, began to speak up with their opinions and justified an ousting of Tojo due to his breaking down of 1-47's identity. Tojo justified it was an attempt at remodeling and the change was temporary so it can fit the Universal Union's standard, but this did not please the NCOs.
12/14/2019 - After D-BOI, Ally, N0mad, and others got together in a revolt, eventually even getting Epic's support, Tojo, seeing the threat of his demise, prompted the removal of the channels and members out of 1-47. This was shut down when 1-47 caught wind of this. Nomad and Chaz were put into power after the removal of the Tojo. Tojo made the 1-47 rethink their way of government, due to the rash and on the spot decisions made by Epic. This led to a bicameral command structure being made, and eventually the entire government followed suite. N0mad, seeing his revolution succeed, stepped down and allowed Epic become the commander with Chaz in the same position.
Democratic Protest/Reform
After a quite a few people, notably Desired and Ally for Hire, plus about 6 more, protesting against Epic for corruption, and after long discussions Epic stepped down to NCO, but was put to Overwatch Commander (leader of military) by Desired. Desired was made to Supreme Chancellor (the equivalent of universal commander). After this, a few things were decided:
- Supreme Chancellor would have a 2-month term, then anyone above 04 could run.
- If the Supreme Chancellor was caught being treasonous or corrupt they were viable to be removed if sufficient evidence was given.
- Senators got a 1-month term, and anyone above 04 could run
- A majority vote consisted of 5 votes from Senators
- Epic and Ally both got permanent seats in the senate
- After this, a constitution was made. This consisted of:
- The senate cannot be disbanded
- War cannot and will not be declared unless absolutely necessary (though this one was removed later after complaint)
among other things as the months went by.
The Grim Hour of the Union
Because of Epic's stubbornness to change the Union's ways and relieve tensions with the Meta seeing them as all enemies of the peoples and a 'plague of the communities', he would decide to keep the Union and its members as an unorganized horde to fight the entire meta. He would completely neglect all of the group's members and dissolute all cares for them because all that mattered to him were getting rid of warclans without considering the impact of the consequences that awaited the 1-47. Epic had even gone down such a road so far down to the point that he would twist the system of the Union's own democracy to his own personal favor in order to more quickly meet the goal of winning a near impossible war, and it was surely painful for all in the Union.
Failed Purge of Lucid Gaming
1-47 forces with Epic leading them would deploy and assault the NRK capital of Lucid Gaming, it was the very beginning of the campaign in an attempt to one by one fight the meta warclans out of all the corners of the servers. Outclassed in tactical rationale by 1-47 being cornered by sniper towers and pressured into defeat by guerrilla warfare, the Union would fail immensely in their assault on the capital of Kakestania. Already the purging of warclans was a lost cause, and the Union's peoples were already at their lowest point in morale.
The Overthrowing of Epic
After a long period of stagnancy High Command would collectively overthrow Epic and assume the directory role as one entity, as the democratic system within the 1-47 developed, Desired, an officer within the ranks, would step up to become the Supreme Chancellor of the entirety of the Union, and would single-handedly interact with the entirety of the meta and re-sustain 1-47's relationship with all warclans through a series of alliances with almost all of them. Epic would be kept under strict watch and be removed of his power in reprimand to his actions.
The Grim Hour of the Union Passing
Epic would for an extensively long amount of time reconsider the fact that warclans are part of the greater Gmod community and they were in the early years when Gmod was a more chaotic place a part of what brought life to the game as a whole. He would stop his delusions of seeing these groups as essences of pure evil and would come to respect them as individual human persons who did what they did best and for fun. Epic would then come to the resolution of swearing an oath to the entire group that such a time as this would never become reality for the Union ever again, and he would further lead with a more open mind and a compassion and striving of understanding for all.
USMR Wars
- Events in chronological order:
- SyntheticMind is forced out of 1-47 due to previous acts.
- SyntheticMind, now being known as Swaggman, creates HECU and starts war with UNC and 1-47.
- UNC + 1-47 destroys HECU, and Swaggman gives up.
- Swaggman, (for the final time), now goes as SlayerMelon, creates a faction called USMR, or the United Socialist Melon Republic.
- After plenty of fighting, there is a meeting between 1-47, UNC, and USMR. The leaders of these conferences were ScartTheWoz, the Ground Watch commander, with CastleCrasher, the leader of Metro Police Force, on the 1-47 side. On the UNC side is X GONN, the co-leader of UNC. On the USMR side is SlayerMelon, the leader of USMR, and Dr. Everyday, the head engineer. They eventually come to a conclusion of peace. (There will be a wiki page on this later.)
- SlayerMelon is caught breaking every single term of the contract, so 1-47 declares war.
- After so much fighting, SlayerMelon gives up and 1-47 gives a two-month term of peace.
Second Skeleton War
The events of the First Skeleton War still traumatized the denizens of the Friendly Garry's Mod Server, and impulsive hate for people with a skeleton player model still burned inside the community. A series of witch hunts organized by the locals of FGC caught the community off-guard and was swept into a server-wide conflict. Because then during after the first war that the Skeletons sought redemption as a people in the community, the Union by its mission had to protect the now innocent fugitives from the mob. A defense was established sheltering the Skeletons by the Union in the map gm_functional_flatgrass, jet planes from the locals made bombing runs that were cushioned by the Union's primary defense lines while evacuees were escorted into the underground tunnel systems and railways deep below. After, settlements of skeleton people flourished in the underground with hostilities now ended, two major skeleton settlements were noted to exist, 'Blue Balls' in the deepest parts of the underground, and a town inside of a pitch black glitched part of the map clipped out of reach called 'The Void'.
UDF Era
Transformation into UDF
The inner council of High Command came to a consensus that the group needed to change its identity to something that would be welcomed by all peoples across the servers that did not exclude people who did not want to associate themselves with the ambiguity of the 'Combine' theme. Since the cause was true and clear in all of the group's members that they wanted to be known as an authentic server protection force an original and non-conflicting identity was needed. It was set into motion that the 1-47 Union would grow as an organization from their horrible past into something for the better and would be forever known now as the Unified Defense Force. The general design of the group would be that of a futuristic-type organization that did not identify itself through country, religion, creed etc. and would serve as a defender of the preservation of all good in the communities in Gmod, striving to be a beacon for all players in all their times of need. Through this the Unified Defense Force would be an organization not being puppet to the fantasies of politics or religion and were simply founded upon to be a group of individuals fighting together for the mutual benefit and defense of the livelihoods of the server communities.
Post-Transformation NRK War
News of the rebranding of the group that had drove out Orzel/Petrograd forces occupying the Friendly Garry's Mod Server reached the acknowledgement of the New Republic of Kakestania, a major enemy combatant during those times, and had declared all-out war against the Unified Defense Force. A total of two battles took place during the war, the last that decided the loss and repelling of NRK forces from the servers within the server Lucid Gaming. The Allied Forces, UDF and the BAF (Belugastan Air Force) would fight against the Petrograd-Orzel forces.
Assault on Eternal Sandbox
The forces that had opposed the UDF would make their first move, deploying all of their troops directly into one of the major servers of UDF operations, Eternal Sandbox, the immediate conflict would transition into the map of gm_bigcity where the battle raged atop the twin towers of the map, accusations of a member within the UDF using illegal methods such as Wiremod player trackers to fight the Petrograd and Orzel coalitions harassing the server from the enemy side were futile and the opposing forces quickly developed infamy in the server, forcing the Petrograd-Orzel forces to retreat.
Expedition of Lucid Gaming
difficult to read, TLDR: UDF + BAF ally and run NRK/Petrograd out of Lucid
UDF since its days as the 1-47 would already be knowledgeable of NRK's capital, Lucid Gaming. A PVP server that had already formed somewhat positive relations with the Union now UDF and with a history of resentment for the oppressors that occupied the server being NRK, the opportunity was ripe for rebellion and the banishment of a warclan from a server that did not want them. A local pro PVP group of friends that disregarded the Meta which dubbed themselves 'Belugastan' would approach UDF with a proposition; that the UDF would give something to fight and that they would fight alongside the UDF in joint operations. Epic would agree to the proposition made by representative of the friend group 'Armenian', and the battle would commence after long trials of preparation. UDF would establish hunting squads to engage some of the straggling Orzel-Petrograd forces while the main forces of the enemy were engaged by a vanilla AC 130 Gunship that fired down upon the towers where the coalition forces tried to swarm into and assume control of. After time and time again of routing the enemy forces, the homeland of the belligerents would become their grave, and they would soon after remove their presence indefinitely from Lucid Gaming. At the end of the battle, both the Unified Defense Force and the Belugastan Air Force would raise their flags together in victory.
In between
Between these two events there was a long while of training and ACF engineering, with a notable vehicle, the V-31, coming out of it. The V-31 was an entity tracking autolead VTOL which was incredibly powerful, fast, and fun to fly as well as boasting the best armor a UDF aircraft had up to that point.
Anti-GDI Fights
Teaming up with their long time ally ATA, they successfully defended Tripmine (ATA's home server) from multiple enemy forces using their newly acquired ACF technology. Youtube Link to the battle.
Anti UNC Planning
With all of this new ACF knowledge, air force commander Ally for hire and his men started planning against UNC, and making several vehicles for fights that were predicted to be coming. Not much new technology came out of this and there was never any raids, however the discord used for the operation was reused for TEC, just renamed and rebranded.
TEC v NATO war / REM transformation
UDF was a primary founding group of TEC, as the leader of TEC Ally for hire was from UDF. UDF did not do much in TEC as a whole clan, however a few choice members such as Ally for hire (obviously) and Castle were incredibly active and participated in many battles. Midway through TEC UDF and UNC leaders decided that a combination of forces would be ideal for long-term development, however this ended up splitting UDF up further. As with the ending of the TEC war among other things a few core members of the group left. Later down the line UDF essentially separated from REM, bringing many people to RKG where Ally for hire then resided.
Post-Epic Era
Epic's Leave
Epic leaving impacted many people and hurt activity in RKG, which may have contributed to its down spiral as Ally left weeks later, ending in RKG officially dying and disbanding. With many people downdraught a funeral was held, and a casket made and distributed. A few of his friends spoke and gave speeches at the funeral.
At this point many UDF members split across the meta, even making quite a few copies of the original clan 1-47 which did not succeed for long at all, however as of 9/5/2021 the current rendition has been around for a while.
